Dover, DE

I'm stuck in Dover, DE for some hospital appointments along the Delmarva Peninsula. Let me tell you..this place is no fun. I booked a room at the Hampton Inn. I find that the Hampton Inn is usually a safe bet- even in small towns. Well this Hampton Inn is located in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Good times let me tell you. I was done with my appointments and here by 3PM. I am totally caught up on email and have eaten my fast food dinner so on to my blog.

I wish I had pictures to post but the camera and memory card are back in Arlington. However, the downstairs bathroom is almost done. They only have to hand a towel bar and touch up a little around the sink. Pete and I are realizing that no home improvement project in our sweet OLD bungalow is going to be easy. The bathroom is full of crooked walls- the contractors learned this when the sink did not fit. They actually had to cut sections out of the dry wall the "build in" our pedestal sink. Now that is thinking outside of the box. I would have told the homeowners to order a smaller sink! I will post pictures are soon as the job is complete. But here is a snapshot.. we used white 3"x6" subway tiles in the shower with a gray 4"x4" border lined with rope. The floor is an octagon dot matrix tile with a gray inset that matches the shower border. All of the fixtures are chrome. There is white wainscoting along the walls and the area above the wainscoting is navy blue. Someone soon will notice that this color scheme very closely resembles the Washington and Lee University colors- go figure! Pete picked the colors in this bathroom:) It actually turned out really well- we were both concerned when the navy paint went on the walls- but we love it!

Our next and last project for a while is the kitchen. We already updated the appliances. We are now going to replace the sink, counter tops, close in the range, repaint the cabinets white, and add an over the range microwave. It sounds like a lot but I don't think it will take the guys longer than a week. We debated endlessly about a tile back splash but ended up deciding that we did not want one. After looking at other houses like ours- most of them do not have tile back splashes in the kitchen. We are trying to keep our renovations as close to period as we can while adding some modern conveniences, i.e. dishwasher that works:)
