The Garage

From this post, it may seem that we care a little too much about a garage. What you have to understand is that Pete has wanted a garage since he lived on 17th Street. He has waited 10 years for this garage (which neither of us EVER thought we would find in Arlington) and can't wait to be able to pull his car in there and not have to worry about a cover. I can't wait to hold the hood open in a heated environment. You have no idea how many nights I froze while holding hoods, lights, or beers for Pete to complete various projects on cars over the years. Not that I did not enjoy the time spent with my wonderful husband.. I just prefer to be warm while spending time with him :)

This is the truck that has been responsible for moving the massive amounts of dirt that they have excavated from our yard. It is honestly on its last leg and I fear that it will die where it sits and melt into what will be our driveway. It is sitting in what will be concrete soon- maybe tomorrow. Hopefully it chooses to run when they start it up in the morning.

This is the famed mechanics pit that was once under some loose plywood. Pete debated and debated about whether to keep it with the new foundation. He decided that he should in fact keep it because he can get a lift for the 911 and stand under it completely to work. I will show the new one in a few days- it looks great!

This is the VW engine that came out of the pit along with some metal scraps and a tree trunk ?! I have a soft spot for VW engines after learning the hard way how they work at the ripe old age of 16. The two tubes to the left and right are what the heat tubes connect to. AKA the exhaust- ( I think). Imagine a leak in the line the pipes the heat into the car..yup exhaust in your car. Now, welcome to my VW :) No heat or inhale exhaust fumes... at least my dad drove me to school on REALLY cold days.

Garage slab that broke up like an egg shell. IT was beyond repair to say the least. The walls still look like that. They are going to power wash off the cricket nastiness and paint the whole thing white. Pete is exploring some groovy flooring to go out there. I believe they are black and white race tiles ??
This trash pile remains. I'm not sure who got a color tv, but it certainly wasn't us!

This is one of many mounds of dirt that appeared. The guys asked me yesterday if we needed any dirt in our backyard. Little do they know...we've had a pool in our backyard all winter. SO, they will graded with some of this dirt yesterday.

Some of the grading that was done by our wee little shed. I guess I don't have to worry as much about all that English Ivy. They dug up a large section of it today and removed the Yew tree that we hated so much back there. I believe Pete was really looking forward to pulling that little guy out with a chain and the Genny. They also buried the drain back there.
