Thirsty Bernie's

Thirsty Bernie's is a new restaurant in Arlington. Pete and I tried it over the summer and discovered that the chef is Polish. In case you did not know, my babcia (grandmother) was Ukrainian but from very near the Polish border. I grew up eating Ukrainian/Polish food. This chef had a great menu complete with wiener schnitzel, pierogies, and a butcher's block of homemade cured meats. The restaurant was reviewed a few weeks ago- first one we had seen a review. They recommended a sandwich that we did not try. It consisted of pastrami, corned beef, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and peppers. We immediately were putting our shoes to head out the door when we remembered that we are trying to not eat out so much. INSTEAD we went to the store to try to recreate this amazing sandwich at home. See for yourself if you would like this puppy. Good stuff..really good. However, I think it all cost more than if we had just gone to Thirsty Bernie's!
