Happy Birthday Jordan!

My nephew turned 15 on Thursday, and we had dinner with my family last night to celebrate. I was 16 years old when I met 10 month old Jordan. My parents took Kim and me to Texas for a week during summer vacation. I met Sara the following summer while in Texas for Martin and Bobbie's wedding. Pete met them both the following spring. Jordan loved Pete so much. He truly felt that Pete was his own personal jungle gym and called to him from the baby gate, "Peeps wake up, peeps wake up!" Sara was still under a year but also enjoyed crawling all over Pete. I really only knew my niece and nephew through pictures until they moved to Virginia my freshman year of college. Now, they moved to Virginia and in with my parents. I REALLY got to know them over the course of the next year- the good, bad, and the dirty! I have loved these two kids since the day they were born. I truly feel like they grew up overnight.

Jordan went from smearing cake in his face to telling me wants to be a neurologist.

Sara from coloring the hard wood floors to telling me she wants to go to Harvard.

Pete and I realized recently that as we age our relationships change so much with our elders. They are always there to advise us, but more as a friend than a parent. I hope that Pete and I can fill that role in Jordan and Sara's lives as they continue to age. In the meantime, we'll make every effort to help them realize their respective goals.
